Tour to Morocco 2010
MOROCCO ADVENTURE
ROYAL CITIES , ATLAS MOUNTAINS AND THE AIT KHOZEMA PROJECT

We travel in a comfortable air-conditioned coach and modern four wheel drive vehicles. We stay in good quality hotels many of which are old palaces and riads.

The Ait Khozema Project – A special highlight of the tour.
In 1997 at a carpet weaving conference in Istanbul we met Austrian Professor Wilfried Stanzer and in talking with him became fascinated by a project he was embarking on to revive the carpet weaving traditions of the Berber people in a remote area of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco.

As with the nomadic tribes of many countries the Berbers had lost their traditional methods due to modern influences on their culture. Professor Stanzer employed the expertise of Dr Harald Boehmer, founder of the DOBAG Project, to help with the reintroduction of the natural dyes used by the Berbers in former times.

Subsequently, the unique Ait Khozema Project has developed whereby 350 Berber women weavers are now benefiting from their own work producing natural dyed carpets in the traditional ways. Very few people are able to visit the project which is not a tourist destination and through our contact with Professor Stanzer we are the only Australian groups to do so.

We hope you can join us for a great Moroccan adventure.
