About the tour
We first travelled to India in 1993 and since that time we have developed a great interest in the culture, history, people and handcrafts of this fascinating, chaotic and colourful country. On our last sojourn there we decided to include India on our cultural tours programme in 2009. This tour covers much of the classical north and includes many of the places we explored on our first journey.
Highlights include
Delhi, then Jodhpur, Udaipur and Jaipur in magical Rajasthan; Agra and the magnificent Taj Mahal; Varanasi and the famous bathing ghats on the mighty Ganges river. We also head off the beaten track to explore the way life continues in India’s villages. There we have the chance to observe the ancient traditional crafts of weaving and embroidery, pottery, miniature painting, fabric printing, the blacksmith and the goldsmith.
In the Ranthambore National Park we take a game ride with the possibility of seeing tiger, sambhar, nilgai, sloth bear, jackal, crocodile, much bird life and even some rarely seen leopard.
We travel in a deluxe air conditioned coach and have two overnight train journeys in air conditioned sleeper compartments, an experience not to be missed in India. Our nights are spent at a number of exquisite heritage hotels which vary from Maharaja’s palaces to more simple but equally atmospheric old buildings. Throughout the tour we will be accompanied by an excellent English speaking professional guide. In addition, where appropriate, we will have local guides with intimate knowledge of the various cultural customs and history.
We hope you can join us for a memorable experience as we journey through the ages. |
